Anjali is four, the youngest and the gentlest — the Kochi cousin, the one who lines up jasmine buds on the windowsill and holds her Ammuma's hand a little tighter than she needs to. Her cream-and-gold kasavu is stitched fresh every Onam by her Ammuma.
Meera and Aarohi share a bedroom in one city. Padma lives with their Nani and Nana in another. Anjali lives by the backwaters in Kochi. They see each other on holidays and video calls — and every summer, without exception, at Nani and Nana's house.
